Improving Visibility and Communication Through Storage Solutions and Collaboration Tools

The Challenge

Stream, one the nation’s largest direct selling companies in the energy industry, has experienced rapid growth since its founding in 2005 – allowing them to expand beyond energy into wireless, home, and protective services over the past few years. As priorities shifted to meet the demands of customer care, Stream found themselves operating on an outdated Microsoft Exchange environment and addressing the risks of a mail server that would soon be unsupported became a time-sensitive priority. Stream engaged Sendero to select the right technical partner, lead the migration from their on-premise 2007 Exchange environment to the cloud-based Office 365, and spearhead the post-migration change management and training effort.

Our Approach

Our team’s first priority involved selecting the right technical partner to focus on the physical component of the migration. Due to their attentiveness, thoroughness, and attention to detail, Softchoice emerged as the clear choice. Sendero partnered with Softchoice to define technical and organizational requirements, end-user facilitation strategy, and a post-migration training plan. In addition to the migration, Sendero would also lead the effort to execute a domain change for Stream as well as implement collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams to enhance communication and productivity.

Softchoice relied on their technical aptitude and subject matter expertise in Microsoft products, while Sendero leveraged our extensive organizational change management (OCM) capabilities to coordinate the project efforts between Softchoice and Stream’s infrastructure team and to manage end-user communication. Equipped with complementary skill-sets, Sendero and Softchoice took a cohesive, one-team approach towards driving the Exchange migration, domain name change, and collaboration tool implementation to completion.

Sendero

  • Development and Execution of Communication plan
  • On-Site Project Management
  • End-User Engagement
  • Post-Migration Knowledge Transfer and Training

Softchoice

  • Assessment and navigation of technical challenges
  • Determination of team bandwidth as it related to back-end operations
  • Data Replication to the Cloud

This is definitely one of the most successful, smoothest migrations that I've been apart of in my career. The upfront planning, the sheer knowledge, and the overall engagement style that Sendero brings to the table is second to none.

Our Results

Solutions delivered to Stream:

  • Successful migration from on-premise 2007 Exchange environment to cloud-based Office 365
  • Implementation of firm-wide collaboration tools and upgrade to latest version of Office ProPlus
  • End-User training on Office 365 productivity tools
  • Completion of Stream email domain change

The introduction to the new productivity features resulted in reduced meeting times and improved organizational efficiency by way of real-time communication tools.

The server migration brought on less administrative overhead for the infrastructure team, relieved the on-premise storage burden, and eliminated the need for Stream to manage future Exchange upgrades.

Finally, the domain change allowed Stream to complete its rebranding effort by utilizing the mystream.com domain throughout the enterprise.
