Long Term Partners

Sendero and Camp John Marc’s (CJM) partnership began back in 2010 – and neither has stopped growing or serving since. Sendero Senior Partner Scott Miller recently took up the role of CJM’s Chairman of the Board, deepening Sendero’s commitment to CJM’s mission: to serve children with chronic illnesses through year-round camping experiences.

Now, every May, Sendero Cares rounds up a group of volunteers to participate in CJM Work Day to help prepare the 170 acre campsite for the upcoming summer campers. Beyond painting horse pens and washing windows, Sendero also project managed CJM’s website redesign – a pro bono effort that served as the foundation for what would eventually become Sendero’s newly launched Community Rocks program.

What is Camp John Marc’s mission?

CJM serves children with chronic illnesses and major physical disabilities, and the families of those children, by making possible high-quality, year-round camping experiences at a unique camp facility in Bosque County, Texas. CJM provides a residential camp experience for far less than what many traditional summer camp host sites charge organizations and camps serving children with special medical or accessibility needs. Each year, they host eleven week-long summer camps and over 25 weekend camps.

When was CJM founded?

CJM was founded in 1991, when Marc and Jan Myers donated 135 acres of land from their Bosque County ranch to become the camp home in honor of their son, who had passed away from cancer.

What is included at the CJM campsite?

Their 170-acre campsite provides campers with an archery range, fishing pier, recreation barn, wilderness area, and much more.

How many campers typically attend CJM each year?

On average, over 3,000 children, teens and family members attend a CJM camp every year. Last year, 1,068 campers were served at Camp John Marc’s eleven week-long summer camps.

How can someone get involved with CJM?

"My experiences with the children and Camp John Marc over the years has been life changing. It’s been my honor and privilege to serve these brave kids and their wonderful families and I am honored to continue to serve the camp staff, our partner hospitals, my fellow board members, the campers, and their families as we build on the incredible success the organization has achieved over the past 25 years."
